I had this brainstorming session with myself the other day. I have a niece, and 2 other young cousins that are all younger than 3 years of age. Since the beginning of June they have been the source of my creativity in many ways. I have been making them some little goodies and thinking of an assortment of toys and things for learning. So, I start thinking of making stitched cards…. I was inspired by a lot of sewn cards I have seen in my linked blogs.
So, in relation to learning and growing up… I thought of making weekly/or monthly cards for my youngsters. Starting with A, I wanted to stitch an A on the front with fabric behind it. [And let me give you some insight into the way I work, I tend to try to do things the hardest way and with the most complexity. I did all throughout Art School and will probably continue to do so for the rest of my life.] So, instead of just drawing with colored pencils, or printing out a card, (which would be much easier…) I thought stitching… with my sewing machine… would be a piece-o-cake. Not so much. It is rather hard to stitch corners on paper. And the presser foot makes a bit of a imprint on the paper. I did start out with drawing out the A and then sewing it. [In hindsight I should have make a template for the A (which I will), cut out the A, then sewn the fabric on to the card following the A cut out.] Then I cut out the inside, then glued on the fabric, sewed the outside margin and the inside of the A.
Once the front of the card was finished I had a few ideas for the inside. My original idea was to draw a few of the animals or other nouns that start with A. I found a nice picture list here. I thought I would just use some creative handwriting and draw.
Then I had another idea, to make little stuffed objects of all the A things. And put them into a little fabric bin. And this idea could take me forever to make. Because, as described above, I would want to make them as intricate and as time consuming as possible. I already have a few ideas for ACORN.
I will keep you all posted on how this idea makes its way into reality!

CUTE idea!! Educational and insanely creative! I love it!
